Multi-Megapixel Displays
Large, high-resolution displays to meet increasing resolution needs
"Insight Media defines the multi-megapixel market as display systems that require more than 2 megapixel (~1920x1080) resolution to meet the needs of the application,” said Insight Media president, Chris Chinnock. “This can be accomplished using tiled LCD screen, LED walls, rear-projection cubes or multiple front projectors blended together to form a seamless image. Sometimes this image can even be warped to allow display on curved or irregularly shaped screens or surfaces.”
Chris further explains “Multi-megapixel display systems have been popular in many market segments like digital signage, simulation and visualization, large entertainment displays and much more. Recent advancements in displays, GPUs and CPUs, blending and warping, camera and calibration systems and software control systems all mean it is much easier to configure multi-megapixel systems today with much lower cost. The ability to cost effectively create wall-sized multi-megapixel displays is here and this will likely accelerate growth in this segment in the coming years, especially in the education and entertainment segments.”
Historically the challenge with projector based multi-megapixel displays has been that they are typically aligned by hand, a painstaking and costly process that usually takes several hours per projector. Scalable addresses the problem with software’s to accelerate the process and lower labor costs.
By using a purely digital approach to auto-calibration of the blend and warp, Scalable greatly simplifies the process of achieving higher intensities and higher resolution.
