Advanced Training Simulator Technology: Delivering Real-world Environments for Tactical Proficiency.
First of Six U.S. Marine Corps Training Simulators Delivered to Camp Pendleton
Scalable Display Technologies, a leading provider of software for multi-projector display systems, and partners TJ, Inc. and VDC Display Systems, a division of Video Display Corporation (VIDE 5.05, -0.15, -2.88%) , today announced the completed installation of Scalable’s EasyBlend(TM) software in the first of six VDC visual display training systems being developed for the U.S. Marine Corps’ Supporting Arms Virtual Training (SAVT) program.
The state-of-the-art visual system for the SAVT-1 simulator is located at the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in Southern California. The system is a trainer that is used to advance the training capability, operational readiness, and tactical proficiency of Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTACs). Providing a fixed institutional high-fidelity immersive training capability, the SAVT-1 is used to train for indirect fire, call for fire, and Type I, II, and III Close Air Support.
Scalable completed installation of its EasyBlend FX edge-blending software in a 260-degree horizontal field of view by 60 degree vertical field of view display system. The system incorporates an ultra-high resolution projector and a high-performance screen, using EasyBlend FX to edge blend and correct geometry for the spherical display. Scalable’s advanced technology supports the goal of achieving close to real-world environments for the trainees.
“Geometric accuracy and ease of use were paramount objectives for this program, and Scalable’s EasyBlend technology delivers,” said John Bilbruck, TSPM, Surface & Expeditionary Warfare Programs. “We improved the overall system performance with EasyBlend because it exceeds the SAVT and MSAT program performance requirements.”
EasyBlend offers the greatest level of technical precision in the industry, making it the ideal auto-calibration technology for military simulators. Using a patented camera-feedback system to calculate pixel-perfect instructions, or warp meshes, EasyBlend automatically calibrates the display and completes the task of aligning multiple projector display systems within seconds to achieve the highest quality edge-blended images with rich and precise color. By using camera feedback of an image array to correct for image warping, adjust color and blend images, EasyBlend produces displays that are bright, high resolution, portable, and self-calibrating. This purely digital approach enables display systems that cannot be engineered by conventional means, either mechanically or optically.
“Based on our experience installing EasyBlend FX in the military simulation market, we understand that our training partners rely on us to help them create the most realistic visual systems for their simulation environments,” said Scalable CEO Andrew Jamison. “Precision is a must in our business and we’re extremely pleased to have completed another successful installation for the U.S. Marine Corps.”
