ST Engineering Antycip, a provider of simulation and immersive visualisation solutions, has completed a major integration at TORE — The Open Reality Experience — the University of Lille's large-scale immersive environment built around a flattened torus-shaped display measuring more than 8 metres in diameter.

The upgraded system comprises 20 Barco I600 4K10 laser projectors with dedicated optics and automatic digital correction powered by Scalable Display Technologies. The laser projectors deliver super-shifted 4K pixel resolution across the immersive surface, enhancing colour accuracy, image fluidity, and visual continuity.

The modernised system is designed to support higher refresh rates, handle complex scenes, integrate AI modules, and enable remote interaction and collaboration between immersive environments.

Originally inaugurated in 2018, TORE is used for academic research in cognitive science, art history, and archaeology, as well as for the design of immersive artistic works.

"The level of realism required for high-quality immersion makes optimising projection and computing systems essential," said Yann Coello, professor of cognitive psychology and director of the Visual Sciences and Cultures Research Federation at the University of Lille. "The integration of innovative technologies expands our computing and interaction capabilities and opens the door to new collaborations between research and industry."

Johan Besnainou, France-Spain director at Antycip, added: "TORE holds a special place in our history. It is a foundational project for our immersive visualisation activities and continues to push the boundaries of what technology makes possible."
